Faculty & Staff

The Laboratory for Public Scholarship and Democracy is committed to building a community of Public Scholarship and a  curriculum of consequence at Penn State. Our goal is to encourage and facilitate faculty and staff in engaging our students in scholarship and fieldwork concerning public issues and problems and in cultivating student capacity for participatory citizenship and democracy.

The Lab administers the Public Scholarship Associates. The Public Scholarship Associates, a collaborative and interdisciplinary cohort, perceive scholarship as an essential contribution to public issues of social justice, human dignity, poverty, the environment, health, and other issues within a democracy’s concern for the common good.  Through the Intercollege Minor in Civic and Community Engagement faculty provide students with a foundation in community problem solving, social change, and the skills and practices necessary for sustaining democracy.
