Civic Engagement through Commissioned Writing Assignments

The Public Writing Initiative (PWI) of the Center for Excellence in Writing uses commissioned assignments from outside the university to enact the conditions of professional writing and public scholarship within selected English 202 classes. One PWI project is commissioned by the Public Issues Forums (PIF) of Centre County Steering Committee in order to engage Penn State students in civic issues.  Participating English 202 writing instructors and their students, assisted by peer tutors from the Undergraduate Writing Center, provide an Issue Book for the PIF Steering Committee.
